For the past couple of years, since before Donald J. Trump managed to defeat their candidate, the American Left has been trying to find ways to not simply shut down the president and his supporters but to actually criminalize their thoughts, words, and expressions.
Well, the libtards who run the University of Connecticut have finally succeeded.
According to PJ Media, a pair of UConn students were recently arrested for shouting racial slurs outside a dormitory.
Yes, we know. Racial epithets and slurs aren’t very nice things to be saying, much less shouting. But the Constitution’s First Amendment specifically protects speech that isn’t threatening or calling for criminal activity or violence against another person.
Our founders knew that not all speech would be welcomed by all Americans all the time. But they also understood that all speech should be protected all the time because that’s the mark of a truly free country, where individual liberty is cherished more than hurting someone’s feelings.
That is, until now:
You have the freedom to be an idiot too. Two students at the University of Connecticut were seen on video walking through a student housing parking lot shouting the N-word. Yes, the two kids are morons. They deserve the disapprobation of their fellow students and their community. But arrest them?
Fox 61 added that according to UConn spokesperson Stephanie Reitz, the two students were charged under CGS 53-37, ‘ridicule on account of creed, religion, color, denomination, nationality or race.’
Campus police arrested Jarred Mitchell Karal, 21, and Ryan Gilman Mucaj, also 21.
Now, in the United States of America, where there is a First Amendment specifically prohibiting governments from punishing citizen speech, if you are “rude” and you “ridicule” someone else, you can be held criminally liable.
Thus, the true criminalization of speech.
What’s more, the vulgar speech used by these two students wasn’t even malicious: It was part of a game, according to Fox 61:
Police said an investigation showed that the males walked back through the apartment complex after leaving a local business and played a game in which they yelled vulgar words.
That’s the crime, PJ Media noted: “They said the wrong words and hurt people’s feelings.”
Unbelievable.
But wait, let’s see how this works in reverse. UConn is a liberal campus run by Left-wing lunatics, which is the case in about 99 percent of American college campuses, truth be told. What about when Lefties call Trump supporters “Nazis?” “Bigots?” “Racists?” None of which are true, by the way.
Those are ‘insults’ based on one’s political creed and denomination. What gives? How come those words aren’t considered crimes?
Because the Left makes rules that fit the Left’s political objectives which, in this case, is to criminalize speech and thus, silence opposition.
Granted, there’s no indication the two students are conservatives, much less supporters of the president. It sounds for all intents and purposes as though they were just engaged in dumb behavior for the sake of being engaged in dumb behavior.
Now, however, they have been arrested and incarcerated, however briefly, for saying something. Likely they’ll be punished in the form of jail, a fine, or both.
And that is strictly against the Constitution.
There is also this: What happens to black people when they use the very same racial epithet in their speech, to describe other members of their ethnic group? Is that considered hate speech?
Of course not. When blacks use the “n” word it’s considered “a cultural thing.” Right.
Remember how hard blacks fought to get that ugly word removed from our vernacular? It was — for awhile. Now it’s made a widespread comeback thanks almost solely to the ethnic group that wanted the word expunged from our vocabulary in the first place.
You can’t make these things up: We are now literally criminalizing speech.
The Left won again.
